GCs project enters its 4th delay year

required to complete the project in a year, it has now entered its 4th delay year.
The project, launched in late March 2005 to set up 4,700 BTS sites, was assigned to 3 general contractors namely: Behin Ertebat-e Mehr, Eriksson Services and Pars Iratel, who were required to complete the project by May 2006 and submit it to 1st Operator, but none has happened so far.
The Mobile Telecommunications chief in his last press conference announced that GCs have been given a chance to complete all of the sites in question.
He has announced that 82% of the project has been completed, and of the 4,700 sites in question 3,930 have been launched, of which 1,222 have been approved.
Earlier, Hassan Razavi, MTC’s planning & engineering deputy had anticipated that the GCs in question will complete their assignments by the end of the current year.
He told MOBNA that Behin Ertebat-e Mehr has completed 90% of the project while the other two GCs, i.e. Eriksson Services and Pars Iratel have each completed 82% of their tasks so far.
He believes that the failure to take ownership of some sites in some cities, the municipalities’ resistance to BTS antenna installation, the high operational cost and the shortage of equipments are among factors that have contributed to the delays.
