Expansion in mobile smuggling due to lack of supervision

“With 95% of the market being in the hands of smugglers, it is evident that no serious control is being exerted on such activity,” Ali Nazari told Mobna news agency.
He believed the control was sporadic and confined to some mobile arcades only, and for that reason the crack down has not been successful.
“Contradictory policies in recent years with respect to mobile set are mainly responsible for such state of affairs,” he added.
“Raising mobile import tariff from 4% to 60% in recent years, in a bid to protect domestic mobile production, was to no avail and resulted in 95% of the market falling into the hands of smugglers,” he added.
“The subsequent tariff cut from 60% to 25%, however, did not have the desired effect and the mobile market is still being controlled by smugglers,” he said.
To face the challenge, most authorized mobile companies have cut their prices and offer after-sale warranties, but the market situation remains as before.
