Mobile sets smuggling risk is 10 percent for smugglers: deputy
“If mobile sets import tariff decreases to 10 percent then smuggling will be omitted,” the spokesman of the Iranian parliaments mines and industries commission Aliasghar Yousefnejad told Mobna news agency.
“The higher the import tariff, the more smuggling will be,” he added.
The current import tariff for the mobile sets is 25 percent.
“In recent months decreasing mobile sets import tariff issue has been authorities agenda which shows the effectiveness of media discussing the matter,” he said.
“Domestic mobile phone market needed 4.5 million mobile sets during the period of March 2006-March 2007, about 8 million sets to 10 million sets in March 2007-March 2008 period and it is predicted market needs about 15 million mobile sets in March 2008- March 2009 period,” the deputy outlined.
“But just less than 3 million mobile sets have imported into the country via legal means in this period,” he added.
“Statistics show that lack of confrontation with the smuggled sets, tariff stability, lack of market control are among reasons for mobile sets smuggling,” he reminded.
