Mobile market would benefit from cut in import tariff

“The high import tariff and lack of proper control over smugglers’ activities has resulted in present chaotic situation,” Nima Aassi told Mobna news agency.
“Even the present 25% import tariff could not curb the smugglers’ activities,” he added.
“With the present tariff, the market will be falling further into the smugglers’ hands whereas with a 15% reduction in tariff all authorized mobile importers could issue mobile sets with original warranty, which would prove beneficial to consumers,” Aassi said.
Most authorized mobile companies have now resorted to cutting their prices to the level that sets without valid warranties are being offered.
