Third Operator winner announcement deadline expiry

“The supervisory council had earlier set a deadline by which the winner of Third Operator tender would be announced, and that date has now expired but Radio Communication and Regulations Organization has not yet officially announced the winner,” Kamal Mohamedpour told Irans mobile new agency (Mobna).
He said all the participants had been present when the winner was being selected, but it had to be confirmed by the committee and then announced officially by RCRO.
Unofficially, however, the press had earlier reported Tamin-Etisalat consortium as winner.
The report had said that Kuwait’s Zein and OmanTel were the runners-up, but because the winner had bid 5 per cent higher than the next runner up, it had been declared winner and the tender was completed at its first stage.
Third Operator is required to provide EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA technologies in 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz frequencies.
The operator’s license is for 15 years extendible to two 5-year terms.
It will benefit from a two-year monopoly until its 3G technology’s penetration rate reaches an optimum level.
