Commerce ministry relieved people over not decreasing mobile set import tariff: economist

“Ever since the beginning of the Iranian year (March 2008) nearly all experts have hailed the announcement by Article 1 Commission that the tariff should be cut from 25 to 10 percent, and have maintained the belief all along,” Mohammad Ali Nejati told Mobna news agency.
“The president of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran surely knows that a reduction in the tariff current would cut smuggling and illegal imports, but with the latest announcement we shall witness a rise in smuggling,” he added.
“All experts supported the government when it cut the tariff from 60 to 25 per cent, but failing to cut it even further gives rise to speculation that maybe the cut would put some individuals’ vested interest at risk.” he said.
He believed the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, himself, should intervene in the matter to prevent wrong and unwise decisions by some agencies from being implemented.
