Less than 10 percent of active sim cards worn out annually: Mobile company official
“Annually between five to seven percent of active sim cards are changing due to a number of reasons,” MCI Public Relation manager Davood Zareian told Mobna news agency.
“The instances are such as line being cut, wearing out, lost and theft of the sim card,” he added.
“Mobile Company of Iran will change sim card free of charge with active ones if it has been worn out due to the network technical malfunction,” he said.
“An increase in calls, the number of times mobile set are switched on and off and number of transmitted sms reduce sim card lifetime,” he added.
Recently reports about sim cards that suddenly stop working has gone up and it has become one of the talked about issues in newspapers and other media.
With about 300 private mobile phone services bureaus that will be equipped with devices to test worn out sim cards, Mobile Company of Iran will change sim card free of charge with active ones if it has been worn out due to the technical defect or passing lifetime.
But if sim card has used up due to the lack of users attention, then MCI will change it charging the subscribers and after at least 24 hours.
According to the experts for a network with appropriate condition, sim cards useful lifetime are 25 to 30 years. But regarding to the Mobile Company of Iran network topography especially in Tehran that users are faced with the ever changing antennas frequently, sim cards useful lifetime are reduce to five years.
