Mobile Company of Iran and Irancell have Middle East`s largest subscribers: report

The figures were comparing the subscriber first quarter of 2008 to that of the same period last year.
According to Hamna news agency, Mobily operating in Saudi Arabia, two Egyptian operators, three Nigerian operators, one Kenyan operator and Zain from Iraq are among those being listed in this table.
State owned operator Mobile Company of Iran had 9.12 million new subscribers in 2007 and stood in first place and Irancell with 7.95 million new subscribers stood in second place.
Mobily operating in Saudi Arabia had about 5.8 million new subscribers showing it had a good share of the market..
Two Egyptian operators include Mobinil and Vodafone which stood in fourth and seventh places, are doing their best not to fall behind Etisalat which recently started there.
In last year (2007) Mobilnil had 5.49 million new subscribers and Vodafone Egypt had 4.64 million new subscribers.
Etisalat since kicking off in Egypt in second quarter 2007 has attracted 2 million new subscribers.
Nigeria with its 137 million people has become the biggest mobile phone market among African countries at first quarter of this year.
