in the Tehran area, and if the necessary fund is available the service could be extended across the country.
Jahangir Agha-Zadeh, in conversation with MOBNA said since digital reception on mobile phone is free of charge and different from IP TV, there are no figures on the number of its users.
He said the service has been available since last March and indicated that owners of mobile handsets equipped with DBV-H standard can now receive 14 TV and radio channels.
He stressed the speed and reception quality on the mobile phone is no different from ordinary digital TVs, and even better in open spaces.
The DVB-H protocol is a special feature which allows TV reception by mobile handset and is not dependent on the mobile phone network but on the handset itself.
Mobile TV technology has been in operation in few countries such as France, Germany and Italy, and Iran is the second country which has launched TV reception employing the DVB-H standard.
There are currently four mobile TV standards in the world namely T-DMB, DVB-H, Media Flo and ISDB-T.
