25% mobile handset import tariff suitable – says MP

imported mobile handset is fair.
Ahmad Bozorgian, in conversation with MOBNA and on yesterday’s Article 1 Committee’s offer of 10% tariff, said this was merely a suggestion and has not received final approval.
He indicated by reducing the tariff, few companies active in the sector will go bankrupt.
He stressed that it was due to government policies of the Iranian years 1385 and 1386 that some manufacturers started production of mobile phone handsets.
He said with a tariff bellow 25% there will be no hope of domestic manufacturers continuing production.
Two years ago, in a bid to boost domestic production, the import tariff of mobile handset was raised from 4% to 60%, which led to heavy smuggling of mobile handsets into the country, as a result the government decided to lower the tariff to 25%.
Last week, however, due to complete failure by domestic manufacturers to produce mobile handsets, the Article 1 Committee suggested the tariff to be lowered to its original 4%, but the offer was rejected.
