ITMC further production not possible: managing director

“Only if the challenges against the manufacturers are removed can they continue their production,” Mohammad-Ebrahim Motale told Mobna news agency.
“The dramatic increase in smuggled mobile sets on the market, customers’ opting for famous world brands and the high import tariff on the device are among factors that have limited the production,” he said
He had announced last month that his company had ceased ITMC mobile set production because of problems and lack of proper production environment.
It was planned that, through a contract between the Industries and Mines Ministry and domestic companies such as ITMC and Emad Semiconductors and increasing import tariff, a proper situation would be made for domestic production but that has not been realized.
There annual demand for mobile sets in the country are 15 million but with the present 25% import tariff, not even 1% of this demand is produced in the country and market sources believe that 90% of mobile sets on the market are imported through illegal channels.
