Decreasing current 25 percent mobile tariff frees market from smugglers: expert

“A 15 percent cut in the current mobile set import tariff will create a vigorous market for its authorized agents,” Mohammad Rahimi Zadeh told Mobna news agency.
“The cut will also narrow the existing price gap between sets with warranties and those without warranties to the extent that the price differential will be insignificant,” he added.
Rahimi Zadeh believes that the current tariff has hampered authorized agents’ activities to smugglers advantage.
Some Jomhouri street (mobile stores hub in Tehran) retailers believe that by offering different brands of mobile sets they will witness a fall in the sale of 1-2 million rial sets (105 -210 dollars)  while smuggling will continue, as before, for pricier sets.
