Local mobile set production policies are illogical: a commerce ministry official
“Generally import tariff is a protection tool for commodity production in the country, but wrong decisions and policies and the increase in import tariff have made problems for mobile set production,” former commerce ministry official Hasan Younes Sinaki told Mobna news agency.
“Six million mobile sets have been imported into the country as of March 2006 when mobile set import tariff was increased from 16 percent to 60 percent,” He added.
“A million mobile sets were imported via authorized distributors and the rest sets via illegal channels,” he added.
“When the import tariff was increased to 60 percent mobile sets prices increased 50 percent. This indicated that the authorities policies were wrong,” he said.
