No reduction in transmitted sms following tariff changes: official

“Change in sms tariffs has not affected the number of sms transmitted,” Mobile Company of Iran’s management and surveillance deputy Mohammad Hossein Fallah Asghari told Mobna news agency.
“MCI subscribers now send or receive around 50 million sms daily, which is about the same as before,” he added.
He added that sms transmission with Persian fonts has not adversely affected the attraction of this popular service.
Experts had previously anticipated that the reduction in Persian sms tariff and increase in non Persian sms fees would drive their users to phone calls instead.
The telecommunication ministry recently raised sms tariff with non Persian fonts from 142 (a cent) rials to 222 (2 cents) rials but lowered it for sms with Persian fonts from 142 (a cent) rials to 89 (less than a cent) rials enforced from June 21.
There are now 27 million MCI subscribers of who 10 million are prepaid sim card subscribers.
The Payam Resan software, which is used to compress sms with Persian fonts may be down loaded from the website www.mci.ir.
