Only 7 companies participated in VOIP tender – of 84 companies

7 completed and forwarded them.
Mohammad-Bagher Zohouri-Far said the tender was to use new telecom technologies for better and cheaper services.
He indicated that, in all, 3 companies were intended to provide the service across the country.
He said that each company will be given a unique code which may be used in marketing and origination & termination services.
The Ministry of Information & Communication Technology PR department, however, did not give reason for those companies that stayed away from the tender.
It seems that companies active in VOIP opposed the tender’s criteria which they thought were capital-intensive and suited special companies only.
There are currently nearly 100 companies which provide origination services.
