Poor-quality handsets on market, threat to consumers’ rights

Economist Saeed Azadegan, in conversation with MOBNA, said poor-quality mobile handset mainly imported for profiteering has caused chaos on the market.
He said these handsets are mainly Chinese-made and are counterfeits of good-quality handsets.
He speculated that if government lowered its tariff on imported handsets, authorized importers would then be able to import proper handsets with ease, thus replacing existing counterfeits.
He indicated that Iran has now become a major importer of Chinese counterfeit handsets, which is not only a strain on country’s currency exchange resources but also an infringement on the rights of its consumers.
